Usually, you enter an account number from the long distance phone cards as well as the long distance phone number while you are on the phone line with the long distance phone cards company. Depending on how many minutes you purchased for your long distance phone cards, you can talk long distance to the party of your choice for as long as you have minutes.

When you purchase long distance phone cards, you purchase long distance phone cards in time increments. If you purchase 120 minutes long distance phone cards, when you make your long distance phone calls, you can talk for up to 120 minutes. If you do not use the entire 120 minutes the first time you use your long distance phone cards, you can use the balance of your long distance phone cards later.

One thing you should watch out for when you are using long distance phone cards is that sometimes long distance phone cards companies charge your phone card in increments of more than one minute even if you purchased your long distance phone cards in increments of minutes.

When this occurs, you can talk for one minute and it counts for one minute, but if you talk for one minute and two seconds, they can charge your long distance phone cards for two or three or even five minutes, which depletes your card faster than you expect.
